Using tape loops
In this video I was experimenting with using tape loops and variable speeds. I have quite a interest for tape loops with how physical and hands on it really is, and how many different ways you can modulate with physical touch. Having something that you can so easily pick up record your surroundings into a 5 second loop really expands my creative process. Its constantly letting me experiment and make rhythmic patterns from house held objects which I wouldn’t normally do as it would be a bigger process doing this at a computer. I also experimented with power usage withing the cassette recorder, using drained batteries . I’ve always been fascinated and trying to find ways to let sound sources self modulate, control and change their own sound without me modulating it myself. With the cassette recorder using drained batteries, this was a cheap way of creating this effect. As the cassette recorder played it would start to warble, stretch and the audio fidelity would decrease, building its own unique sound as it uses its power.
