Delia Derbyshire
Delia Derbyshire is known for creating the theme for Tv show Doctor Who in 1963. Using tape loops, oscillators and manipulating sound it became the first theme tune to be composed entirely electronically.
She produced her work at the BBC Radiophonic workshop, a space that was dedicated to creating experimental music. Delia also worked on other tv shows including The Avengers and Thunderbirds, where she composed music for these shows combining traditional pop and experimentalism creating dynamic and unique compositions.
Her influence on modern day music is huge, as she is the founder of many music production techniques that are now important to music genres such as techno, ambient and experimental music. Delia’s career shows true creativity and innovation, and for her time pushing the boundaries of what electronic composition is.
