Cross modal involves using more than one sense like sound, sight and taste and working together which influences each other. These influences can negatively or positively change the way you perceive the situation. For example coffee could taste better when you don’t have a loud coffee machine or atmosphere near you. (Negatively effecting perception). Or it could also taste more intense and sweet if the cup is white. (positive effect).
A example of cross modal in sound. If the bass isnt loud coming from the PA speakers, but the subwoofers are pushing air, you will feel vibrations from the air being pushed. Your brain then combined what you feel and what you hear making it feel louder than it actually is.
