The human voice is key to many radio pieces communicating emotions and stories for the listener to visualise. this can be altered to add a sense of atmosphere or meaning. For example the tone of the speaker or the way certain words are phrased changes the emotion or context of the story.

Foley/sfx are useful for setting the scene and helping the listener be placed in a location or setting for them to decide. This can be done using the sounds of traffic, multiple people talking and footsteps the help paint the picture of a crowded and dense city. This creates the radio as an environment as its all up to the listeners imagination to form these places in their head from the voice being heard, but with sound fx and foley this pushes the listeners imagination further to get a better and more in depth idea of what the context of the script is about.
